It may not officially be summer yet, but the warm weather and sunshine are here to stay! With the days heating up, everyone is breaking out their bikes and gear. We’ll share some fun trails, routes, and events to enjoy with family and friends on your bikes this summer in Little Falls!
Although not yet complete, part of the Camp Ripley Veterans State Trail is ready for bicyclists in Little Falls. The first segment which goes from Charles A. Lindbergh State Park to Mill Park was completed back in 2019. The rest of the proposed trail will connect six trail systems: Central Lakes, Lake Wobegon, Soo Line, Paul Bunyan, Heartland, and Mi-Gi-Zi.
Also in Little Falls is the Mississippi River Trail. In its entirety, the trail starts at the Mississippi River’s source in Itasca State Park and travels almost 3,000 miles downstream in the Delta Region at the Gulf of Mexico. Minnesota accounts for nearly 500 miles of the trail including segments of stunning scenic state and regional trails.
South of Little Falls is the Soo Line Recreational Trail. This trail segment stretches ten miles and starts just north of Royalton and goes through Bowlus. Along the way, you can stop at Blanchard Dam to collect the infamous Cross Rocks/Fairy Crosses and take in the spectacular view.
You can find more trail information and locations here.
There are several different bike routes in Little Falls and the surrounding areas. One of our favorites is the Dam2Dam Ride. Although this route is available at any time, there will be a group gathering to ride on June 17th. The trail starts and ends at Le Bourget Park with the option of going on a short route or taking a longer one. And after your ride, you can visit the Little Falls Dam Festival for food, beverages, activities, and so much more!
Little Falls also has a historic route that travels to historic sites around the city and a few different routes that travel to neighboring cities such as Swanville, Randall, and Pierz.
The Charmed Bike Ride is a great way to get out and explore the community. This is an all-summer-long event where kids 18 years of age or younger who collect all 15 charms in Little Falls, plus the bonus charm, earn a chance to win a bike from Touright Bicycle Shop! Visit each location, park your bike in the bike racks, and collect the free charm from participating businesses. Walking and wagons are also welcome. Collect all the charms and register by emailing a photo and name to charmedridelf@gmail.com by August 20th. Winners will be announced on Visit Little Falls’ Facebook page Live on August 25th at 4 p.m.
The map of participating businesses is shown above and is available on our website. It can also be found under “Tours” on our app which you can download off of Google Play or the Apple Store.
Little Falls has several unique bike racks around the city. Each bike rack has a fun unique design with some of them reflecting its location like the airplane bike rack at the Charles Lindbergh House and Museum or the book bike rack at the Little Falls Carnegie Library. Bike to each location, park in the bike racks, and explore locations you may not have visited before. You can find all of the bike racks in the Public Art book available at Visit Little Falls or online.
